I Have never owned a toaster oven before. I recently purchased one, and when I used it the outside of the oven was too hot to touch.

Good point. Yes it seems to be true that they all do! An expensive plate warmer!
No, there are special insulated ones that you can touch even when they’re in full operation as far as I know. They’re just (naturally) more expensive.
You’d be surprised at what they’re able to insulate these days.
All toaster ovens get really hot on sides and top while in use. Some more than others so dont be afraid of using it just be careful
